Mobility

We believe cars can be used far more efficiently. That is the essence of the mobility transition. Technology now makes it possible to use cars many times more intensively. We support municipalities and developers with high-tech, user-friendly solutions that make neighbourhoods more liveable, prevent grid congestion and unlock stalled housing projects.

Market and transition

The mobility transition is fascinating. Cities were built around cars and people were taught to want one of their own. Now electrification is adding stress to the grid. Everyone knows things must change – but how? We see a new mobility mix emerging: people cycling in the city, taking trains for work and using shared cars for weekends. Our platforms fit this new behaviour and help redefine the role of the car.

The new nobility mix

The modern consumer is already showing us the way. Where people once identified as either true car drivers or dedicated train travelers, we now see more and more city dwellers mixing different modes of transport. They cycle through the city, take public transport to work, and use shared cars for weekend trips. Our platforms focus on this changing behavior and help define a new role for the car, because cars have the greatest impact on urban livability.

OUR MOBILITY BRANDS

Mobility solutions

What are we doing today? Real-world examples of products and services from The Sharing Group that accelerate the transition.

Too many idle cars.

If we want to accelerate the transition, we need to make better use of cars. With our car-sharing system MyWheels, we show how things can be different. While privately owned cars sit idle 95% of the time, MyWheels cars are used six times more often. And now, with the introduction of bi-directional charging, our MyWheels cars are becoming smart neighborhood batteries. Even when parked, we harness their enormous battery capacity to help reduce grid congestion in the city.

Scientific research shows that one MyWheels shared car replaces ten privately owned cars. This not only means fewer idle cars cluttering the city, but also new opportunities to reduce grid congestion. As a result, more homes can be built and businesses can be connected. A true win–win–win

Self-driving cars?

For some, self-driving cars are an exciting dream; for others, a worrying prospect. At The Sharing Group, we believe they’ll be on Dutch roads much sooner than most expect, and we’re getting ready. Imagine shared cars that come to pick you up at home, that you can use for one-way trips, and that charge or discharge energy at hubs outside the city. For us, this future can’t arrive quickly enough.

Our People’s
Power Plant

“In the People’s Power Plant, everyone generates their own energy, stores it smartly in home batteries and shared cars, and together we reduce grid congestion. All our markets and brands come together here. And it works!

Accelerating major transitions

The transitions we’ve all been talking about for years are becoming more connected than ever. Everything is moving. Everything is linked.
